On February 2nd we had to say goodbye to one of the funniest, loving, caring person in our Downeast Horizons family. Michael was a Downeast Horizons “lifer”. He came to us fresh out of MDI High School and worked several years at the MDI Workshop until it became the Bar Harbor Center. Prior to the change of programs, Mikey moved into our Knox Road home to which he called home since 1997.
Mikey loved people and knew so many especially those from Mount Desert Island. He had a lot of close friends, especially those from his home who quickly became his family. Mikey loved being a prankster, and was always telling jokes. His laughter after doing so would always end with “April Fools!” even when it wasn’t April, and then another hardy laugh that followed that would never be forgotten.
Over the last decade Mikey was especially proud, and enjoyed working at the MDI High School for years as a janitor assistant until he recently “retired” from the position. Mikey had so many friends that he made not only through Downeast Horizons, but through his job at the High School and of course many who he had already known throughout his life being a true Islander. Mikey’s family plan to hold a graveside service in the Spring/Summer.
